Seniors head north for national honours |

Fiona Hunter (Baberton) and Heather Anderson (Alyth) defend titles at the Scottish Senior Ladies' Amateur Championship at Fortrose and Rosemarkie from June 29 - July 2. The Black Isle Club is staging its first National Championship and Hunter is bidding to retain the 36-hole strokeplay title, while Anderson defends the matchplay trophy contested by the top 16 strokeplay qualifiers.  | |

Lorna Bennett (Ladybank), runner-up in the strokeplay championship at Kinross las year, is the back marker with a one handicap and Fiona de Vries (St Rule) is off two. But the high quality field of 84 includes 21 players with handicaps of five or better - the list includes Moira Thomson (Gullane Ladies), last year's beaten finalist in the matchplay. Seniors golf is thriving, and the Championship will play a major part in the selection of the Scottish team for the Seniors' Home Internationals at Sheringham at the end of September. The draw for the first round of the strokeplay championship is as follows:

There were some very close ties in the 3rd round of the Scottish Match Play Foursomes with Murrayfield, King James VI, Saline, Linlithgow and Muir of Ord all winning their matches on the 1st extra hole. Lynn Gray, Lauder shot the lowest nett score of the day at the Regional Medal Final at Torwoodlee yesterday (Sunday 20 June). She scored a nett 67, four shots under the SSS of 71 in winning the Bronze section. Lynn Gray and Eleanor Pearson (Kelso) qualify for the Grand Final for the Bronze section and Janis Davidson (Eyemouth) and Louise Campbell (The Glen) qualify for the Silver section. Linda Ritchie (Melrose) was 2nd in the silver section but is not available for the Grand Final. The Grand Final will be played at Crieff Golf Club on 5 September. Pitreavie's Louise Kenney remains on course to retain the Scottish Ladies' Golf Association's Order of Merit, while Abernethy teenager Hannah McCook is the early leader in the race for the girls' title. After six counting tournaments, Kenney, beaten finalist in the Scottish Championship at Craigielaw last month, remains in pole position on the senior list with 2,280 points and Laura Murray (Alford) is in second place with 1,880. Jane Turner (Craigielaw) is third with 1,515, while the biggest mover is Mortonhall's Rachael Watton. She finished second in the Munross Trophy to overtake Scottish Champion Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar). Rachael has 1,371 points with Kelsey on 1,285. After the opening two events in the girls' Order of Merit, 16-year old Hannah, who finished second in the Paul Lawrie Scottish Schools' Championship, is the early leader with 470 points. The next senior event counting is the British Amateur Championship at Ganton from June 22-26 - points are allocated for both the strokeplay qualifying and the matchplay knock-out - while the girls' will be chasing points at the Janice Moodie Trophy at Windyhill on July 2.

Laura makes headway after St Rule victory |

Alford's Laura Murray gained an extra reward for a battling play-off victory at the St Rule Trophy at St Andrews by moving into second place behind defending champion Louise Kenney (Pitreavie) in the SLGA Ladies' Order of Merit. Murray, who has already indicated that she will turn professional at the end of the year, beat Amy Boulden and Stacy Keating at the second extra hole of the sudden death decider to take the coveted St Rule title.
