Emily Taylor Wins Scottish Under 16's Title

The second and final round of the 2010 SLGA Under 16 Open Championship took place yesterday, 9 April on a perfect day for scoring. The best under 16 golfing talent from Great Britain and Ireland did not disappoint with plenty of low scores over the Rannaleroch course at Strathmore Golf Centre.

Emily Taylor from Royal Lytham St Annes stormed to a six under par second round 66, giving her a four under par total of 140.  That was just enough to take the title by one shot from Ashley Crammond, The Warwickshire, who shot a second round 68 for a total of 141.  Georgia Hall, Ferndown and Bronte Law, Bramhall were 3rd and 4th respectively on 142.

Junior Champion of Champions 2009

Junior champions Alyson McKechin and Simon Fairbairn

Alyson McKechin (Elderslie) and Simon Fairburn (Craigielaw) claimed the girls and boys titles respectively in the rescheduled Scottish Junior Champion of Champions played at The Duke's, St Andrews on Sunday 21 March 2010.

The event, abandoned last November due to a flooded course, comprised a strong field of 17 girls and 34 boys having qualified largely through wins at either National, County or Area level last season.

In the Girls event Alyson McKechin, in only her second 18 holes of the year, returned a four over par score of 75 to win by one from Mortonhall's Rachel Watton.  Local girl Rachel Hanlon (St Regulus) finished in third place with a 77 (+6).

McKechin, coached by SLGA National Coach Kevin Craggs, expressed her delight at lifting the first National title of the year "It's just amazing having only played one other round this year while on an SLGA squad coaching trip to Spain.  However I have been working hard on the range and this is a nice reward for all the practice put in".

Limited play over the winter months had been a common occurrance for a number of competitors with many courses having been closed for long periods due to snow and frost.  The Duke's itself was closed for 51 days as Arctic conditions swept the country but the course was dry and playing well for the time of year and as always provided the competitors with a great test of golf.
